New wave of M&A driven by tax-inversion deadline, $1.6 trillion in deals year-to-date

Industry columnist Morris Beschloss reports a resurgent wave of mergers and acquisitions, with $1.6 trillion in deals reported through September, the most in seven years, partly driven by U.S. companies racing ahead of anticipated government action against tax inversions.

“Worldwide, $1.6 trillion in mergers and acquisitions have been reported so far this year through the end of September, according to data publicized by Thomson/Reuters new syndicate. This is the most since the $3.2 trillion seven years ago just before the mid-2008 financial crash brought a decade of frantic mergers and acquisitions to a practical halt.”
