Sheet Metal Workers and UTU merger remains on hold

The planned merger between the Sheet Metal Workers union and the United Transportation Union (UTU) remains blocked by a federal court order. A judge extended the injunction through at least early June due to a lawsuit by UTU members alleging they were not informed of constitutional issues before the vote. If eventually approved, the merged entity would be called the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART).
